Detroit Tigers center fielder Cameron Maybin is expected to miss Opening Day while recovering from a fractured left wrist.

Manager Brad Ausmus said Saturday from spring training in Jupiter, Fla., that the organization received results of a second set of X-rays on Maybin's wrist.

"It showed signs of healing, but he's still not ready to do baseball activity," Ausmus said prior to the Tigers' Grapefruit League game against the Miami Marlins. "Medically, it wasn't surprising, but I guess I was being optimistic."

Maybin sustained a hairline fracture of his left wrist on March 2 when he was hit by a pitch from Luis Severino of the New York Yankees in his first at-bat this spring training. The initial expectation was that Maybin would miss 4-6 weeks.

"It's going to be a least another week before they look at him again," Ausmus said. "Once he gets the all-clear to start doing baseball work, he's got to build up. He's got to start swinging and build up to playing in games. I don't see how he's going to be ready at this point."

Last season, Maybin batted .267 with 10 home runs and 59 RBIs in 141 games for the Atlanta Braves. He was traded to the Tigers after the season.
