The PGA Tour generated a record $160 million for charity in 2015, the organization announced Wednesday.
It marked the first time the Tour surpassed the $150 million threshold in a single year. This total includes donations made by tournaments on the PGA Tour, PGA Tour Champions, Web.com Tour, Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada, PGA Tour China and PGA Tour Latinoamerica.
The all-time total donated to charity is $2.3 billion since the first-ever charitable contribution of $10,000 was made by the 1938 Palm Beach Invitational. Of that total, more than $1.3 billion has come since the Tour surpassed the $1-billion plateau in 2005. The $2-billion mark was passed in January 2014.
"This incredible record is due to the selfless work and tireless efforts of all the tournaments, sponsors, players and, especially, our volunteers," PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said in a statement. "Passing this milestone ensures that many lives will continue to be positively impacted in the communities where we play."
In 2015, six PGA Tour events raised more than $8 million for charity, including two -- AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Valero Texas Open -- that donated more than $10 million. The Dean & DeLuca Invitational and Waste Management Phoenix Open generated more than $9 million for charity, while The Players Championship and John Deere Classic donated more than $8 million.
The Presidents Cup biennial international team match-play competition generated a record $6.12 million for charities.
