The Cincinnati Bengals re-signed defensive tackle Pat Sims to a two-year contract Wednesday.

The 6-foot-2, 340-pound Sims returns to the team from the unrestricted free-agent ranks. He is a ninth-year NFL player.

"I have always liked the kind of play Pat brings, so it's great to have him sticking with us," Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther said in a statement. "Everyone knows he's a big, strong guy. He's stout presence in the middle. But also, he understands our system, which is very important to me and the entire defense."

Sims, 30, has played in 68 games (23 starts) with the Bengals, recording 195 tackles, five sacks and an interception. He has played in 100 NFL games (41 starts), including two seasons with the Oakland Raiders.

Sims was the Bengals' third-round draft choice in 2008 and played in Cincinnati through 2012. He went to Oakland as a free agent for 2013-14 and returned to the Bengals in free agency last season.

Sims helped the Bengals to No. 2 in scoring defense (17.4 points per game) last season, the highest league ranking in the category in franchise history. In the wild-card playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, he had a shared sack of Ben Roethlisberger and a pass defensed.
