The Miami Dolphins are expected to release Pro Bowl cornerback Brent Grimes after the nine-year veteran balked at restructuring his contract.

The release of Grimes will put the Dolphins about $28 million under the salary cap after the contracts of defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and linebacker Koa Misi were restructured and wide receiver Greg Jennings was released.

Miami is alleged to have approached Grimes, who signed a four-year, $32 million contract in 2014, to gage his interest in reworking his deal. He declined, preferring to become an unrestricted free agent.

The Dolphins have not officially waived Grimes, who is there only proven cornerback.
