Jury awards Erin Andrews $55 million

Erin Andrews won a $55 million judgment against a stalker and the owner of a Nashville, Tenn., hotel where he recorded secret nude videos of the sportscaster in 2009.

Andrews had sought $75 million from the owner and operator of the Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt University and the stalker, Michael David Barrett.

Barrett already has served a prison sentence.

At the time of the incident, Andrews worked for ESPN. She currently works for Fox as a sports correspondent and co-hosts the popular "Dancing With The Stars" show.

In his closing argument, Andrews' attorney encouraged the jury to award her damages that took into account the "full amount of harm that's been done to her" from the five-minute video recorded through a door peephole.

It took the jury less than eight hours to deliberate and come up with a verdict. The jury split the blame -- and the damages roughly equally between Barrett, who will have to pay about $28 million, and the two companies who operate the property for about $26 million.

Andrews originally included Marriott International in her lawsuit, but the judge dismissed the company saying it wasn't responsible for security at a property operated by a franchisee.

Andrews testified she has suffered for seven years now because of the video and had to seek help to deal with the trauma of being violated.

Her parents told the jury that she was a "shell" of her former self.

Neither Andrews nor her lawyers spoke to reporters after the verdict was announced. But later in the afternoon, Andrews did tweet thanking the jury, the court, the people of Nashville and all the support she received from around the word.
