Refund reax: Carmelo Anthony apologizes for spat with Knicks fan

Carmelo Anthony acted out of frustration on Tuesday when he shouted back to a heckling fan to go get a refund from New York Knicks owner James Dolan.

The Knicks lost 104-85 to the surging Portland Trail Blazers and with 4:15 left in the game a fan standing a few rows behind Dolan was yelling toward the bench in Anthony's general direction.

"Look, the owner's right there," Anthony said he told the fan. "Ask for your money back."

Anthony issued an apology on Wednesday, saying "We are all frustrated by the team's recent results -- everyone, including me, my teammates, coaches and the fans. Last night, a fan and I let those frustrations get the best of us. I should not have responded the way I did."

Security guards encircled the heckling fan and took him to the concourse. It is not known whether he was ejected from Madison Square Garden.

"He kept calling my name, calling my name, saying, 'You guys suck, you guys suck,'" Anthony said Tuesday. "At that point, I was trying to gather myself, and I turned around. All I did was point at Dolan and told him, 'Look, the owner's right there. Ask for your money back.' He's calling me and telling me he's never coming to another game and we suck. Just don't want to hear that. I pointed to the owner and told him, 'You deal with that with him. Maybe you can get your money back.'"
