Detroit Tigers sign IF Casey McGehee to minor-league deal

The Detroit Tigers on Tuesday signed 33-year-old veteran infielder Casey McGehee to a minor league contract.

During his seven-year career, McGehee has compiled a .259 batting average, .319 on-base and .708 OPS over his career. He enjoyed his best season as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2010 when he hit 23 homers and knocked in 104 runs.

In 2013, he played in Japan and hit 28 homers and drove in 93 runs while hitting .292.

The following season with the Miami Marlins, he recorded 681 plate appearances and hit .287 on 177 hits, driving in 76 runs.

He was traded to his hometown San Francisco Giants to replace World Series hero Pablo Sandoval.

His time with the Giants was short-lived. He hit just .213 in 49 games and was released on July 8.

He finished the season with the Marlins, playing 60 games and hitting .182.
