Former NBA All-Star Jayson Williams was charged with drunk driving related to an incident on the night of Jan. 26 near Delaware, N.Y.

Williams, who served more than a year in prison for the 2002 accidental shooting death of a limo driver, crashed his vehicle in the upstate town located about 95 miles northwest of New York City.

Reports state that Williams hit a utility pole along a rural road. Williams, 47, told police he swerved to avoid hitting a deer.

Officers on the scene stated that Williams failed a sobriety test and had slurred speech and difficulty standing.

In 2010, Williams was convicted of a DUI after he drove his car into a tree.

Williams played nine NBA seasons, the last seven with the New Jersey Nets. He retired in 1999.
