Kansas City Chiefs sign TE Travis Kelce to five-year extension

The Kansas City Chiefs signed tight end Travis Kelce to a five-year contract extension on Friday.

Terms were not be released but the Pro Bowler's new deal reportedly is worth $46 million over five years with at least $20 million in guarantees. The deal, which includes a $10 million signing bonus, will keep Kelce in Kansas City through 2021.

The maximum value of the contract could reach $50 million, according to the Kansas City Star.

"Today we reached an agreement with Travis and his representatives on a contract extension," Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said in a statement. "He's a talented football player that has become an important piece to what we do offensively. Travis is a high-character guy and a leader in our locker room."

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound Kelce has played in 33 games (27 starts) in three NFL seasons with the Chiefs. His career numbers include 139 receptions for 1,737 yards and 10 touchdowns. After missing the majority of 2013 due to injury, Kelce has produced two seasons with more than 50 catches.

Kelce, who is in Hawaii for Sunday's Pro Bowl, recorded his highest totals in 2015, catching 72 passes for 875 yards and five touchdowns. He was selected by Kansas City in the third round (63rd overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Kelce, 26, is going to have his own reality dating series, "Catching Kelce," on the E! network this offseason.
