Reggie Wayne's long and productive NFL career appears to be over. The longtime Indianapolis Colts wide receiver told local television station WTTV on Friday that he's not returning to the field as a player next season.
The 37-year-old Wayne hoped to play in 2015, but his stay in the New England Patriots' training camp lasted less than two weeks when he was cut.
"Yeah, I'm done," Wayne said. "It was fun, but it's time. It's just time. Whenever you can admit that you're done, you know you're done."
Wayne spent 14 years with the Colts and played in six Pro Bowls and two Super Bowls. His 1,070 career receptions, 14,345 receiving yards and 82 touchdown passes are listed seventh, eighth and 23rd in NFL history.
Wayne was productive despite having to share the field with prolific wide receiver Marvin Harrison, who is third in career catches (1,102) and seventh in yards (14,580).
In 2013, Wayne sustained an ACL tear but bounced back in 2014 to catch 64 passes. He had never missed a game because of injury from 2002 to 2012.
"When I look at it, what else did I have to prove?" Wayne said. "In my mind, I never got as much pub as a lot of other guys, and that's fine. I don't care. You know what? Numbers don't lie. People do, but numbers don't lie."
