Top-seeded David Ferrer advanced to the quarterfinals of the ASB Classic in Auckland with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Australian qualifier Matthew Barton on Wednesday.

Unseeded American Jack Sock continued his strong player with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Vasek Pospisil, while No. 3 seed John Isner survived a three-set scare against Sam Querrey. The pair of hard-serving Americans battled for two hours and 13 minutes before Isner prevailed 7-6(8), 6-7(4), 6-4.

"It was obviously a very close match," said Isner, who had 31 aces in beating Querrey for just the second time in six meetings. "I considered it pretty much a coin flip out here tonight, and I was fortunate to win."

That was the lone three-set match of the day, with No. 2 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, No. 4 seed Kevin Anderson, No. 6 seed Fabio Fognini and No. 8 seed Roberto Bautista Agut all winning in straight sets. Bautista Agut took out American Donald Young 6-4, 7-6(3) and will play Isner in the next round. Sock will play Anderson on Thursday.
