ASHEBORO, N.C., Dec. 21 (UPI) -- BK Racing crew chief Joe Williams heard the worst imaginable news Saturday.
Williams' daughter, Stephanie Rembert, died after a "freak car crash" in North Carolina, according to NBC Sports.
The crash happened outside of Asheboro in unincorporated Randolph County. Rembert was traveling in the vehicle with her two children, nine-year-old Jamie and six-year-old Frankie.
Rembert died after being airlifted to a hospital. Her children, who also traveled to the hospital, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

— JJ Yeley (@jjyeley1) December 20, 2015"Obviously, everyone is in shock," team spokesman Kate Fegley told NASCAR Talk. "It's so close to the holidays. They're just overwhelmed with everything that's happened.
"It's a very difficult time but we've had overwhelming support from the NASCAR family and community."
Williams is the crew chief for No. 23 Sprint Toyota driver J.J. Yeley.
A GoFundMe account has been set up dedicated to the memory of Stephanie Rembert. So far the account has raised $6,900.
"I am Roy Gangdal and employee at BK Racing in the Sprint Cup Series," the account says.
"My crew chief Joe Williams and his family have lost his daughter in a freak car accident. She was taken from us way to early. We have lost Stephanie Rembert a wonderful smart loving daughter, and a great mom to her 2 beautiful children."
