The Los Angeles Dodgers may be backing out of a three-year, $45 million deal with right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma, according to a report out of Japan.
Jiji Press, a wire service in Japan, reported that the Dodgers are backing out the deal because Iwakuma failed his physical.
If the original deal is canceled, it is possible the Dodgers might offer a lesser package. Los Angeles is in the market for a starting pitcher after losing Zack Grienke to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Japanese hurler dealt was limited to 20 starts last season for the Seattle Mariners due to injuries. He went 9-5 with a 3.54 ERA and pitched a no-hitter in August.
Iwakuma, 34, is 47-25 with a 3.17 ERA in four major-league seasons after leaving Japan.
