Philadelphia 76ers coach Brett Brown received a two-year contract extension through the 2018-19 season, it was revealed on Friday.

Brown is just 38-149 in two-plus seasons with the rebuilding organization. But he has earned high marks for his coaching ability and the way he handles players.

"Brett has been everything we anticipated - and more - both as a basketball coach and a partner in building this program," general manager Sam Hinkie said in a statement. "His tireless work ethic, his daily desire to consistently improve, and his resiliency line up with our core values as an organization. It was not difficult to come to the decision to formally say we want to work with Brett Brown even longer."

Philadelphia owns an NBA-worst 1-22 record entering Friday's home game against the Detroit Pistons. The club went 18-64 last season and 19-63 in Brown's first season in 2013-14.

The extension comes in the same week that the 76ers hired Jerry Colangelo as chairman of basketball operations and special adviser to the owner.
