Vincent Jackson is Bucs' Man of Year again

TAMPA -- For the third year in a row, receiver Vincent Jackson is being honored as the Tampa Bay Bucs' Man of the Year, making him one of 32 nominees for the NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

Jackson is the first Bucs player to win the team honor three times since safety John Lynch won from 2001-03. His "Jackson in Action 83 Foundation" is active with military personnel and their families, and his work there made him the national runner-up for the NFL's "Salute to Service" award last season.

Jackson did not practice Wednesday. He missed three games with a knee injury but played the last two weeks.

--It was a cryptic scene captured on camera from the Bucs sideline during Sunday's loss at Indianapolis: Bucs QB Jameis Winston grabbing the shirt of fellow rookie Evan Spencer and explaining to him that "Lions do not accept opinions of (expletive) sheep, OK? He's a sheep."

Just who was the sheep in this discussion? Spencer, a receiver on the Bucs' practice squad, explained Wednesday that he had gotten tired of criticism directed at Winston from a heckling Colts fan and responded to him, something Winston reminded him not to do.

"It was just a situation where I stepped out and said something I shouldn't have to a fan, because I felt he was disrespecting my quarterback," Spencer said. "Me being the person I am, I said something to him. Afterwards, Jameis said 'You know what, we don't mind ourselves with his opinions and things he's saying. We have to go out and do what we can. It was just a moment and after that it was over with. We talked about it and we're good to go from here on out."

--Former Bucs QB Doug Williams will be inducted into the team's Ring of Honor at halftime of Sunday's game against the Falcons.

--Safety Kimario McFadden, cut by Bucs on Monday, was signed back to team's practice squad today.

--Linebacker Bruce Carter is undergoing the concussion protocol after he was forced to leave Sunday's game at Indianapolis. He did not practice Wednesday.

--Right tackle Gosder Cherilus (knee) did not practice Wednesday. Demar Dotson took reps at RT.

--Guard Ali Marpet (ankle), who missed the last three games, had full participation in practice Wednesday and should start against he Falcons.

--Defensive tackle Gerald McCoy (hand), who leads the team with seven sacks, did not practice Wednesday.

--Defensive end Jacquies Smith (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday.

--Tight end Luke Stocker (back) did not practice Wednesday. He was replaced by Brandon Myers.
