Sweden's Kristoffer Broberg made a 10-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a playoff against American Patrick Reed to win the BMW Masters title in Shanghai on Sunday.

It is the first European Tour victory for Broberg, who entered the tournament with three career runner-up finishes. He arrived at the final hole of regulation tied with Reed at 17-under par. Both players missed birdie putts of about 10 feet.

Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee, the third-round leader, and South Korea's An Byeong-hun also missed birdie putts on the 72nd hole that would have gotten them into the playoff. Sweden's Henrik Stenson also finished one shot back at 16-under.

It was another near miss for Reed, who eagled the 15th hole and birdied the 16th to hold a one-shot lead, only to bogey No. 17.

"All you can ask for is to have a chance come down late on Sunday and I've put myself in that position quite a bit recently and unfortunately haven't gotten in the winner's circle," Reed told reporters. "It hurts, but at the same time, I know what I'm working on right now is definitely the right thing because I'm moving in the right direction. Just have to close one out."
