Chicago Cubs pitcher Dan Haren announced his retirement after playing parts of 13 seasons with eight different clubs.

Haren, 35, had a career mark of 153-131 with a 3.75 ERA. He went 11-9 with a 3.60 ERA this season while splitting time between the Miami Marlins and Cubs.

Haren had hinted at retirement over the past few seasons and made it official with an announcement on Twitter a couple of hours after the Cubs were ousted from the National League Championship Series by the New York Mets.

"Thank you baseball," Haren began. "I played this beautiful game for 30 years. I took my jersey off for the last time tonight. It was an honor. #ithrew88"

Haren was a three-time All-Star and twice won 16 games in a season - with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2008 and Los Angeles Angels in 2011.
