U.S. retains Presidents Cup

The Presidents Cup came down to the final match on Sunday in Incheon, South Korea, and the United States prevailed for the sixth straight time against the International team.

American Bill Haas defeated Bae Sang-moon 2-up to give the Americans a 15 1/2-14 1/2 victory in the closest competition in 10 years.

A loss by Haas, the son of U.S. captain Bill Haas, would have resulted in the two teams sharing the Presidents Cup. But Bae flubbed a chip shot and the Americans, who entered the final day with a one-point lead, kept the Cup.

The International team appeared to be in position to win during the 12 singles matches that wrapped up the four-day event at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea. But American Chris Kirk dropped a 15-foot putt on the 18th hole and Anirban Lahiri missed a 4-foot putt to win their tight battle 1-up.

Other U.S. singles winners were Dustin Johnson over Danny Lee 2 and 1, Phil Mickelson over Charl Schwartzel 5 and 4 and Zach Johnson over Jason Day 3 and 2. Patrick Reed halved his match with Louis Oosthuizen and so did Bubba Watson against Thongchai Jaidee.
