Lionel Messi out 7-8 weeks with knee injury

Barcelona star forward Lionel Messi will miss seven to eight weeks after sustaining a knee injury just minutes into Saturday's 2-1 win over Las Palmas.

Messi was injured when Las Palmas defender Pablo Bigas blocked his shot a few yards from goal. Messi tried to stay in the game after being medically treated but left 10 minutes into the contest. He was taken to a local hospital.

Barcelona later announced Messi would be out nearly two months with a torn ligament in his left knee.

Luis Suarez scored both goals for Barcelona.

Messi could miss four Champions League group stage games and the El Clasico against Real Madrid on Nov. 22.
