Brett Favre, Terrell Owens among Hall of Fame nominees

Quarterback Brett Favre was one of 108 modern-day nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2016 announced Wednesday night in Canton, Ohio.

Favre was joined by wide receiver Terrell Owens, offensive lineman Alan Faneca, safety Lawyer Milloy, running backs Brian Westbrook and Clinton Portis, kicker John Carney and linebackers Keith Bulluck and Mike Vrabel on the list of former players in their first year of eligibility.

Previously nominated by the seniors committee were former Oakland Raiders and Houston Oilers quarterback Ken Stabler, former Detroit Lions and Washington Redskins offensive lineman Dick Stanfel and former San Francisco 49ers owner Edward DeBartolo Jr.

Also on the ballot are the 2015 finalists: kicker Morten Andersen, coaches Don Coryell, Tony Dungy and Jimmy Johnson, running back Terrell Davis, linebacker-defensive end Kevin Greene, wide receiver Marvin Harrison, safety John Lynch, offensive tackle Orlando Pace and quarterback Kurt Warner.

Favre's career ended after the 2010 season with three league MVP awards, a Super Bowl championship, numerous NFL passing records and 186 victories. He spent 16 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, one with the New York Jets and two with the Minnesota Vikings before retiring for good.

Owens played for five teams and was a five-time All-Pro who led the NFL in touchdown catches three times and finished with 153 TD receptions in his 15 seasons.

Faneca was a six-time All-Pro in 13 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals.

The list will be reduced to 25 semifinalists in November and to 15 finalists in January.
