Phil Mickelson and Bill Haas were named to the U.S. team for the Presidents Cup on Tuesday as wild-card selections by captain Jay Haas.

Bill Haas made the team for the first time and will be playing for his father. Mickelson has made every Presidents Cup or Ryder Cup team since 1994.

The Presidents Cup matches against an international team will take place Oct. 8-11 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea in Incheon City, South Korea.

After qualifying for 20 consecutive Presidents Cup or Ryder Cup teams, Mickelson was made a captain's pick for the first time. Jay Haas didn't hesitate naming Mickelson to the U.S. team.

"If anyone deserves a pick, it's Phil Mickelson," Haas said. "He is without question the leader of the team. And the players on the team were adamant for him to be on the team."

Bill Haas finished 11th in the points standings, one spot out of an automatic bid.

"To be honest with you, I would have probably picked the 11th person in the standings regardless of the name," Jay Haas said. "But he's had a good year and to a man, the assistant captains and team members were all behind him."

The 10 automatic U.S. qualifiers are Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson, Jimmy Walker, Zach Johnson, Jim Furyk, Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Matt Kuchar and Chris Kirk.

International captain Nick Price added Australian Steven Bowditch and Korean Sangmoon Bae to his team, which also includes Jason Day, Louis Oosthuizen, Adam Scott, Hideki Matsuyama, Branden Grace, Marc Leishman, Anirban Lahiri, Charl Schwartzel, Thongchai Jaidee and Danny Lee.

The Americans have an 8-1-1 record in the Presidents Cup matches.
