Smith said the team will not rush Evans back from injury. Evans and the Buccaneers' other starting wide receiver, Vincent Jackson, have battled muscle strains since Tampa Bay drafted Evans in the top 10 of the NFL draft last April.
Evans was targeted five times in the first two preseason games but did not record a catch.
Jackson has two receptions, 16 and 40 yards, working with No. 1 overall pick Jameis Winston.
