Anderson Silva blames failed drug test on sexual enhancers

By Marilyn Malara

LAS VEGAS, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Famed Brazilian MMA fighter Anderson Silva blames sexual enhancers for failed drug tests that came back positive for anabolic steroids.

According to documents acquired by Brazilian publication Combate, 40-year-old Silva claims he did not partake in the consumption of any banned substances but did in fact use anti-anxiety and insomnia drugs before his fight with Nick Diaz.

"The Spider" tested positive for anabolic steroids drostanolone and androstane. Oxazepam and temazepam, two anti-anxiety medications, were also found in his system.

In response to banned contaminants, Silva says they must have come from a sexual enhancer drug. According to the report, Silva used other unspecified substances that "could have been tainted" with the banned drugs.

Silva's first hearing with the Nevada State Athletic Commission is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 13.
