Penn State has shifted into fulltime throwback mode with a 2015 team motto of "Black Shoes. Basic Blues. No Names. All Game."

The football team will wear black shoes, blue jerseys and last names are being taken off the Nittany Lions' uniforms.

Penn State did not allow player names on jerseys until 2012, when coach Bill O'Brien made the decision to have last names stitched on uniforms to show appreciation for all players who decided to stay as punishment was handed down for the Jerry Sandusky scandal.

"The 2012 team, permanently recognized in Beaver Stadium, will hold an enduring place in our program's history," coach James Franklin said in a statement. "Their commitment will never be forgotten. However, it's time we bring back the tradition that represented Penn State for 125 years."
