Flynn, 29, is a seven-year NFL veteran who has played for the Packers, Seahawks, Bills and Raiders. In 51 games (seven starts), he has thrown for 2,541 yards with 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions and a 61.3 completion percentage.

Flynn was originally drafted by Green Bay in the seventh round of the 2008 draft from LSU. In his first career start in 2010, he threw for three touchdowns in a loss against the Patriots.

After signing with Seattle in 2012 and losing a training-camp battle to Russell Wilson to be the Seahawks' starting quarterback, Flynn was traded to Oakland in 2013, where he started once before eventually returning to Green Bay for the end of the 2013 season and 2014.

Flynn joins Jimmy Garoppolo backing up Tom Brady, who is slated to serve a four-game suspension in 2015 for his role in the deflated football controversy.

To make room for Flynn on the roster, the Patriots waived quarterback Garrett Gilbert.
