Benches clear in San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves game

The benches cleared but no punches were thrown in Thursday's game between the Braves and Padres after Atlanta's Julio Teheran hit San Diego's Matt Kemp with a pitch in the top of the first inning.

Teheran's 1-2 fastball sailed high and inside, striking the right-handed Kemp on his left arm as he tried to get out of the way.

Kemp threw his bat to the ground and appeared to exchange words with Teheran as he walked to first base. Both benches and bullpens emptied, but order was kept.

Home plate umpire Jordan Baker was holding Kemp back when the outfielder slipped and Baker went down with him, giving the appearance that he had tackled the player.
