American League Game Summary - New York at Oakland

Stephen Vogt's three RBI and eight terrific innings from Jesse Chavez gave the Oakland Athletics their first series win in nearly a month following Sunday's 3-0 victory over the New York Yankees.

Chavez (2-5) scattered seven hits -- all singles -- and struck out six without a walk to put together a second straight start of eight innings in which he didn't permit an earned run.

The right-hander was hung with a hard-luck 1-0 loss to Detroit in the previous outing, but got just enough assistance in this one when Vogt cracked a two-run homer off Adam Warren in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Vogt added a sacrifice fly in the eighth, while Billy Burns went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a pafirst series since winning two of three against Texas to begin May.

Warren (3-4) pitched well in defeat, yielding just the two runs on six hits through seven innings.

Alex Rodriguez and Didi Gregorius finished with two hits in the scuffling Yankees' ninth setback in 13 games.

Warren had limited the A's to three singles and a walk through five very effective innings, but Burns led off the bottom of the sixth with a base hit and stole two bases to put the go-ahead run on third with none out.

Burns briefly remained there after Ben Zobrist flied out to shallow left. Vogt then clubbed a 1-1 pitch from Warren over the wall in right -- the first extra-base hit by either side -- to break the scoreless stalemate.

Chavez, who has received no runs of support in four of his five losses this season, made the lead stand with a perfect seventh. Gregorius' leadoff single in the eighth went nowhere for New York, as did Rodriguez's hit off Tyler Clippard to begin the ninth.

Clippard entered with a 3-0 advantage after singles by Burns and Zobrist off Esmil Rogers preceded Vogt's sac fly in the eighth.

The Yankees' best scoring opportunities came early. Chase Headley and Rodriguez each singled to put two on with one out in the first, but Chavez got a big strikeout of Mark Teixeira that helped end the threat.

New York also put two aboard with one out in the second. However, Gregorius was doubled off first on Jose Pirela's liner that was snared by second baseman Eric Sogard.
