New Orleans Pelicans hire Golden State Warriors' Gentry as new coach

Alvin Gentry, who has been an assistant for the Western Conference-champion Golden State Warriors, is getting another shot to be a head coach in the NBA.

The New Orleans Pelicans have hired Gentry as their next head coach, a team spokesman confirmed Saturday evening.

Gentry will take over for Monty Williams, who was fired by the Pelicans on May 12 after going 173-221 in five seasons.
