Brian Dozier's RBI triple in the seventh inning was the difference as the Minnesota Twins edged the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Trevor Plouffe went 2-for-4 and drove in a run, and Chris Herrmann added a solo homer for the Twins, who dropped the opener of the three-game series but have won six of seven overall.
Ryan Pressly (2-1) earned the win in relief of Kyle Gibson, who limited Toronto to two runs -- one earned -- on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings.
Aaron Loup (1-3) relieved Blue Jays starter Aaron Sanchez with the score tied 2-2 in the seventh, and Aaron Hicks greeted him with a single. Two batters later, Dozier lined a shot to the warning track, and Ezequiel Carrera nearly tracked it down. The right fielder dove and got a glove on it, but the ball caromed towards center, and Dozier raced around for an RBI triple.
Casey Fien worked around a single in the eighth, and Blaine Boyer tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to earn the save -- his first since 2011.
Sanchez missed his spot with a fastball in the third inning, and Herrmann turned on the mistake and sent it over the wall in right for his first home run of the season.
Gibson miraculously did not allow a run over the first three innings despite allowing four hits and issuing four walks. Three double-play ground balls helped his cause, but the Blue Jays finally scored when Kevin Pillar golfed a low pitch into the left-field seats in the fourth.
Back-to-back doubles by Joe Mauer and Plouffe put the Twins back in front in the fourth, and an error tied things again in the sixth. Carrera was trying to bunt runners to second and third, and Herrmann's throw to first got away. Russell Martin scored. Gibson and Brian Duensing limited the damage to just the one run.
