John Calipari: 'No interest' in Pelicans' job

John Calipari's name surfaces most times an NBA job becomes available, but the Kentucky coach on Tuesday said he has no interest in the New Orleans Pelicans' vacancy.

A report in the New Orleans Times-Picayune said Calipari has expressed a desire to explore the Pelicans' position, especially since it would reunite the coach with former players Anthony Davis and Tyreke Evans.

However, Calipari debunked that idea on Twitter.

"Even though Anthony and Tyreke are in NOLA, I have no interest in the Pelicans or any other job," Calipari wrote Tuesday. "I have a great job and I'm happy at UK."

The Pelicans need a replacement for Monty Williams, who was fired earlier this month despite leading the club to the playoffs for the second time in five years.

Calipari has tried the NBA in the past, posting a record of 72-112 in two full seasons and part of another with the Nets from 1996-99. He was fired 20 games into his third season after a 3-17 start.

The 56-year-old guided Kentucky to a national championship in 2012 with Davis leading the way as a freshman. Evans played for Calipari at Memphis.

Calipari also led Kentucky to the NCAA Tournament national championship game in 2014 and this year's squad was 38-0 before losing to Wisconsin in the national semifinals.
