Braves' Gosselin has fractured thumb, out 8 weeks

The Atlanta Braves have placed infielder Phil Gosselin on the 15-day disabled list after he was diagnosed Monday with an avulsion fracture in his left thumb.

Gosselin was injured during Sunday's 6-0 victory over the Miami Marlins. He will undergo surgery on the thumb Wednesday and is expected to be sidelined eight weeks.

To take Gosselin's place on the roster, the Braves will select the contract of infielder Adonis Garcia from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Gosselin is hitting .325 with four doubles and two RBI in 20 games this season.

Garcia, 30, leads Gwinnett and sits second in the International League in hits (47), doubles (11) and batting average (.351) in 34 Triple-A games.
