ALBUQUERQUE, April 28 (UPI) -- Jon Jones, the UFC's light heavyweight champ, was released on $2,500 bail after turning himself in to police Monday after allegedly being involved in a hit-and-run incident Sunday in New Mexico, according to multiple reports.

The Albuquerque Police Department used its Twitter account to rattle off a series of tweets Sunday about Jones.

"We CANNOT confirm that Jon Jones was involved in a H&R traffic accident from this morning. The investigation is ongoing," the first tweet said at 6:22 p.m.

"We can now confirm that we are looking for UFC fighter Jon Jones for questioning stemming from a H&R this morning," the next tweet said at 9:32 p.m.

The next series of posts said that an arrest warrant was issue for Jones, but he had agreed to turn himself in. Later, the account posted that he had been booked into Bernalillo County MDC "without any incident."

According to the city website, the police were seeking Jones for questioning "in regards to his possible involvement in a hit-and-run accident, near the intersection of Juan Tabo and Southern, in Southeast Albuqerque early" on the morning of April 26.

The driver of the other vehicle was a pregnant female in her 20's. She was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries.

Jones allegedly ran a red light, setting off a three-car accident before witnesses say he fled his vehicle and jumped over a fence. Police then found a marijuana pipe, containing marijuana and paperwork with Jones' name on it, according to MMAFighting.com. The website also reports that Jones is not facing drug possession charges at this time.

Jones, 27, had a DWI in 2012 and tested positive in December for cocaine metabolites.

Jones is scheduled to fight Anthony Johnson in the main event of UFC 187 on May 23 in Las Vegas.
