The Seattle Seahawks signed free-agent cornerback Cary Williams on Tuesday.
The deal, reportedly worth $18 million over three years, was announced a week after Williams was released by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Around the same time on Tuesday, after the NFL league year began and the free agent period opened, the Eagles announced they had signed former Seahawks cornerback Byron Maxwell to replace Williams.
Williams, 30, started all 16 games for Philadelphia over the past two seasons and had 59 tackles and two interceptions in 2014.
The eight-year NFL veteran would have counted more than $8 million against the Eagles' salary cap next season, which would have been the final year of a deal he signed during the 2013 offseason.
A seventh-round pick of the Tennessee Titans in 2008, Williams finally earned a starting role with the Baltimore Ravens in 2011. He had four interceptions in 2012, helping the Ravens on their way to winning the Super Bowl.
He joins a Seattle secondary that surrendered the fewest passing yards in the league in each of the past two seasons on the way to consecutive Super Bowl appearances.
