Seattle suburb bans cheese ahead of championship game against Packers

"On Sunday, January 18, 2015, the Seattle Seahawks opponent in the NFC Championship game will be the Green Bay Packers, a.k.a. Cheeseheads. Fans of the Green Bay Packers are frequently seen wearing obnoxious wedge-shaped foam hats painted yellow."

SEATTLE, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- The Seattle suburb of Bainbridge Island banned the possession and consumption of cheese in City Hall Friday ahead of the Seahawks Championship game against the Green Bay Packers.

"Due to the relationship between the Green Bay Packers, their fans, and cheese, the possession of and/or consumption of cheese or cheese flavored products shall be banned in Bainbridge Island City Hall on Friday, January 16, 2015," read Executive Order 121212.

"I'm going to arrive early and we'll have some type of cheese grater or shredder available so if anybody brings in cheeses or cheese products, we'll have to dispose of them," said city manager Doug Schulze.

Schulze said he has yet to raid the vending machines but Cheetos and Cheez-Whiz are also banished from the building.

There was a challenge from one Packers fan but the ban remains in place.

"That's insane," Tyson Wehrmeister, General Manager, Mars' Cheese Castle lamented to WDJT.

Green Bay is considering a retaliation ban including possibly Starbucks coffee.

The Seahawks will face the Packers Sunday in Seattle on FOX at 3 p.m.
