Reports: Padres acquire Norris from A's

The San Diego Padres' busy offseason continued on Thursday when the club acquired power-hitting catcher Derek Norris from Oakland, according to multiple reports.

Norris will be joined by left-handed pitcher Seth Streich, along with an international signing slot, in exchange for right-handed pitchers Jesse Hahn and R.J. Alvarez.

The 25-year-old Norris hit a career-best .270 with 10 homers and 55 RBI this past season in Oakland en route to his first All-Star Game selection. Streich spent 2014 with Class-A Stockton and compiled a 9-6 record with a 3.16 ERA in 22 starts for the Ports.

Hahn got some work with the Padres over this past season and went 7-4 with a 3.07 ERA in 14 games -- 12 starts. Alvarez, who was originally acquired by San Diego in the Huston Street trade with the Angels, had a 1.25 ERA in 38 games out of the bullpen for Double-A San Antonio and Arkansas.

San Diego's need for a catcher became apparent when it reportedly sent Rene Rivera, among others, to Tampa Bay as part of a three-team deal that will bring 2013 AL Rookie of the Year, Wil Myers, to the Padres.

That deal is pending physicals.

In another reported deal that is all but complete, San Diego landed Matt Kemp from the Los Angeles Dodgers, but the two sides hit a snag after the results of the outfielder's physical were a concern.
