C.J. Brown threw for 165 yards and rushed for 87 yards and one touchdown as the Maryland Terrapins defeated the Michigan Wolverines, 23-16, in a Big Ten Conference clash at Michigan Stadium.
Brown connected on 13-of-24 passes for the Terrapins (7-4, 4-3 Big Ten) and Wes Brown contributed 39 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Amba Etta-Tawo added 45 yards receiving in the win.
As for the Wolverines (5-6, 3-4), Devin Gardner threw for 106 yards and an interception, and rushed for 82 yards and one touchdown in the loss. Drake Johnson contributed 94 rushing yards in the win.
Michigan took a 3-0 lead when Matt Wile converted on a 22-yard field goal with 9:35 left to play in the first quarter.
Early in the second quarter, Maryland tied the score at 3-3 when Brad Craddock kicked a 38-yard field goal.
The Wolverines took a 6-3 lead when Wile kicked a 33-yard field goal with 7:41 left in the first half.
The Terrapins would take a 9-6 lead when Craddock converted on two field goals. The first was from 41 yards with 3:32 to play in the quarter, and the second was from 21 yards out with just under two minutes to play in the half.
As time expired in the first half, Wile capped off a eight-play, 75-yard drive with a 26-yard field goal to tie the score at 9-9.
Gardner would give Michigan a 16-9 lead when he ran in for a 15-yard touchdown with 10:25 to play in the third quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter, Maryland tied the game at 16-16 when the quarterback Brown rushed for an eight-yard touchdown. Then with just under six minutes left in the game, Wes Brown rushed for a one-yard touchdown to give the Terrapins the 23-16 deciding score.
Maryland won despite allowing almost 400 yards of total offense, 292 of which came via Michigan's ground attack.
