Brittney Griner cut by man wielding knife in China

Brittney Griner, WNBA and former Baylor University player, got a "little scratch" when a drunk man attacked team on bus in China.

SHENYANG, China, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- WNBA player Brittney Griner was injured Monday after a drunk man attacked her and her team with a knife in China.

The Phoenix Mercury player, who is in Shenyang, China, to play with the Women's Chinese Basketball Association, was cut by the man on the Beijing Great Wall team bus.

"When I got on the bus, I was scared by what I saw. Griner was bleeding," coach Xu Limin told Chinese news agency Xinhua.

The team had just completed practice in preparation for a game Tuesday against Liaoning, in which Griner played.

Griner took to Instagram shortly after the incident to let her friends and fans know she was safe.

"First let me say I'm ok!!!! But last night me and 3 my teammates got chase and attack by a man with a big ass knife got a little scratch and my teammates walk away unharmed!" she wrote in a caption accompanying a video she posted of the police response. "He chase us into our bus and had us corned yelling at us then he finally left! Ugh lets just say I'm ready to get out this city we are visiting! Life can be took at any moment! Cherish every moment! AGAIN IM OK! Thank you to everyone that has been checking on me!"
