Giants' Jernigan lands on IR

The New York Giants revealed Tuesday that another player will miss the remainder of the 2014 season, with the team placing wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan on injured reserve Tuesday due to a mid- foot sprain.

The news comes after the Giants announced Monday that nickel back Walter Thurmond is done for the year after tearing his pectoral muscle during Sunday's 25-14 home loss to Arizona. Thurmond was officially put on IR Tuesday as well.

Additionally, starting middle linebacker Jon Beason could be facing an extended absence after aggravating a previous injury to his right foot in Sunday's game.

Beason, who missed the entire preseason recovering from surgery to repair a sesamoid fracture and ligament tear in the same foot, is likely to visit foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte later this week.

Jernigan also was hurt in Sunday's contest, which dropped New York to 0-2 on the young season. The fourth-year pro had been running as the Giants' No. 3 receiver with 2014 first-round pick Odell Beckham Jr. yet to play because of a hamstring issue, and recorded six catches totaling 40 yards through the first two weeks.

Wide receiver Julian Talley was promoted from the practice squad to take Jernigan's roster spot. With Beason appearing doubtful to suit up for Sunday's game against Houston, linebacker Dan Fox was also elevated from the practice squad.
