Adrian Peterson facing more child abuse allegations after details about 2013 incident come out

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Less than a day after being reinstated by the Vikings organization and telling the public "I am not a child abuser," running back Adrian Peterson has been accused of hitting a second child.

The latest incident to receive public attention occurred in June 2013 in Peterson's Houston-area gated community and resulted in physical head wounds to Peterson's then-4-year-old son. The attack left the child with a permanent scar above his right eye.

"Be still [and] take ya whopping, he would have saved the scar," Peterson said in a text to the boy's mother explaining the incident. "He's aight."

"This is not a new allegation," Peterson's lawyer Rusty Hardin said in a statement.

"It's one that is unsubstantiated and was shopped around to authorities in two states over a year ago and nothing came of it. An adult witness adamantly insists Adrian did nothing inappropriate with his son. There is no ongoing or new investigation."

According to Peterson's attorney, charges were never filed because Peterson never actually hit the child in his head, rather the child hit his own head on his car seat while Peterson was administering what Texas law views as reasonable punishment.

"I felt so bad," Peterson texted the boys mother.

"But he did it his self."

Peterson has been reactivated by the Vikings and is expected to play Sunday against the Saints. Reports from the front office indicate the Vikings are not willing to release their star player but are considering trading him.
