CONROE, Texas, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Adrian Peterson turned himself into authorities in Texas on Saturday after he was indicted for injury to a child.
Peterson turned himself in and was booked into Montgomery County Jail around 1 a.m. Saturday, and was released on $15,000 bond less than half an hour later.
Peterson returned to Minnesota on Saturday morning, though he was deactivated for Minnesota's Sunday game against the New England Patriots.
The mother of a 4-year-old male, who was visiting Peterson at his home in Texas, said her son returned to her in Minnesota with injuries. She took him to a doctor and contacted authorities.
The child was allegedly disciplined with a switch, or a small tree branch with its leaves removed.
"This indictment follows Adrian's full cooperation with authorities who have been looking into this matter. Adrian is a loving father who used his judgment as a parent to discipline his son," said Peterson's attorney Rusty Hardin in a statement. "He used the same kind of discipline with his child that he experienced as a child growing up in east Texas. Adrian has never hidden from what happened."
