Report: Mathis likely out for year with Achilles tear

Indianapolis Colts star linebacker Robert Mathis is more than likely out for the season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon, according to a report.

ProFootballTalk first reported that Mathis suffered the injury while working out on his own in Atlanta last week.

The 33-year-old Mathis, whose 19 1/2 sacks led the NFL last season, is in the middle of serving a four-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing drugs.

Mathis claimed a positive test occurred due to taking a fertility drug.

It's a devastating blow to a Colts defense that struggled to generate any pressure during their 31-24 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday night.

Because the injury happened away from the team facility, Indianapolis could put Mathis on the non-football injury list and withhold this year's money.
