Cubs pitcher Hendricks named top NL rookie

Chicago Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks was named the National League Rookie of the Month for August on Monday.

Hendricks, who made his major-league debut in July, posted a 4-0 record during the month while the Cubs won in all six of his starts. Hendricks led all qualifying NL rookies with a 1.69 ERA and ranked second in innings pitched with 37 1/3.

The 24-year-old righty had 20 strikeouts and six walks in August.
