DENVER, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Wes Welker, wide reciever for the Denver Broncos, is suspended for the first four games of the regular season.
Welker is suspended for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy. USA Today reported he tested positive for amphetamine.
Welker, who has already appealed the decision, and lost will start serving the suspension immediately.
He will be able to return to the Broncos, who have a bye in week 4, for their week 6 game against the New York Jets.
Welker is the second Bronco to be suspended this season. Kicker Matt Prater is also suspended four games for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
He had also not yet been cleared to play after getting a concussion during a pre-season game against Houston.
