Duke LB Brown to miss season

Duke linebacker Kelby Brown will miss the upcoming season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during Monday's scrimmage.

Brown, a redshirt senior, was a first team All-ACC selection for the Blue Devils in 2013.

"Obviously our hearts go out to Kelby and his family," Duke head coach David Cutcliffe said. "As I said last night, here is a young man who is an All-ACC and All-America-type player on the field, and even a better person off the field. He has been and will continue to be an integral part of our program. He's as fine a representative of our program as we have, and nothing will change that. He's seen this type of adversity before, and I'm confident he'll overcome this challenge."

Brown, who previously underwent two procedures on his right knee, has compiled 242 tackles and four sacks while starting 29 of the 32 career games in which he has played.

The Blue Devils will open their 2014 campaign at home against Elon on Aug. 30.
