Former Greece coach Santos receives eight-match ban

FIFA handed former Greece national team head coach Fernando Santos an eight-match suspension after he was sent off during the tournament.

Santos was ordered to leave the bench by Australian referee Ben Williams at the end of extra time in his team's round of 16 match with Costa Rica on June 30, which ended 1-1 with Greece losing 5-3 on penalty kicks.

The 59-year-old Santos stepped down at the end of the tournament after a four- year stint with Greece, but he was handed an eight-game ban by FIFA on Monday for his actions during his final match.

FIFA handed down the penalty after it ruled that Santos "displayed several acts of unsporting conduct towards the match officials," meaning that he will be unable to coach in any of his team's first eight matches once he finds another employer.
