LOS ANGELES, July 7 (UPI) -- Shelly Sterling's lawyer Bert Fields said LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling will do anything to avoid trial.

Fields spoke to reporters outside the courthouse saying that Sterling's attempts to move the case to federal court and declare competency are a "sham."

"I even understand he left town. That's the kind of guy he is. He's willing to do anything rather than face the music," Fields told TMZ. "But he's ultimately gonna have to face it. As Joe Louis once said, 'He can run but he can't hide.'"

Sterling is currently battling to stop his wife Shelly from selling the basketball team to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer for $2 billion.
