LOS ANGELES, June 30 (UPI) -- A new doctor declared Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling mentally fit Tuesday with no signs of dementia or Alzheimer's.
Dr. Jeffrey Cummings, a top neurologist in the fields of dementia and Alzheimer's at the Cleveland Clinic, said Sterling only showed signs of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), which is common among people his age, sources told CNN.
The conclusion also deemed Sterling fit to handle his business affairs, which could prove to be problematic for his wife, Shelly Sterling, who plans to sell the Clippers to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.
His wife still contends that he is unfit to make business decisions because she believes he is incapacitated by some kind of brain disease.
Sterling's attorney's are due in court Monday afternoon, where they will vie for a postponement of the trial.
The NBA has banned Sterling for making racist remarks about African-American players, specifically Magic Johnson, and fined him $2.5 million.
