World Cup players run more than 9 miles in a match

On average, soccer players run seven miles per game, but some players have been recorded running over nine miles during the course of a match.

SAO PAULO, June 23 (UPI) -- How much running do the players get in per match during the World Cup?

On average, soccer players run seven miles per game, but some players have been recorded running up to 9.5 miles during the course of a match. The mileage varies by position -- goalkeepers run the least while midfielders run the most -- but soccer players average more milage than athletes in baseball, basketball, American football and tennis, according to Gizmodo.

Teams use SportVU technology to track how far the players run in a game. The pitches are between 100 and 130 yards long and each game lasts 90 minutes.
