Packers release RB Franklin

The Green Bay Packers have released running back Johnathan Franklin.

Franklin, a fourth-round draft pick out of UCLA last year, was put on injured reserve in November after suffering a neck injury and a concussion in a Week 12 game against Minnesota.

The Packers announced the move Friday, a day after head coach Mike McCarthy said Franklin wouldn't be back with the team.

McCarthy said Franklin handled his situation like a "class act."

"You always remember his smile and his energy and positive outlook and just the way he's handled this whole process of going through all the different tests and so forth," McCarthy said.

Franklin rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries in 11 games. He did most of that in a Week 3 loss at Cincinnati when fellow backs Eddie Lacy and James Starks were both injured.
