Washington Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez will make his return from the 15-day disabled list to start against the Houston Astros on Wednesday.
Gonzalez was shelved for a month with left shoulder inflammation. He underwent an MRI after giving up five runs in just three innings against the Mets on May 17.
The left-hander made two rehab starts with Single-A Potomac, allowing nine runs on nine hits and eight walks across 7 2/3 innings. In his last rehab start on June 12, he conceded just one run on two hits with seven strikeouts in four frames.
The 2012 Cy Young Award finalist is 3-4 on the season, his third in Washington, with a 4.62 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 50 2/3 innings.
Washington optioned left-handed reliever Xavier Cedeno to Triple-A Syracuse to make room for Gonzalez.
